January is where the seeds of the year are planted, a good time for devising the plans and strategies that will help you achieve what you desire over the next twelve months. It can be useful to draw on the energy of the Three of Wands for this task, because among its aspects are foresight, vision, and the ability to see down the road at how what you begin today will manifest somewhere down the road.
It’s often said that if you can imagine it you can achieve it, and I believe that’s true. But a complimentary, common theme is that you need to meet the universe at a point where you can receive what it is trying to give you. And that, my friends, requires a bit of what my dad used to call elbow grease. And to get the most out of that effort, you want to think about what, why, how, where and when to put in that effort. You can climb a mountain, but you can’t walk out of the pub at half eleven half-cocked and expect to scale Everest before sunrise.
Take some time to plan out what you want to do, what direction you want to go in. Meditate on it – the Three of Wands can also indicate some insight, intuition or vision that can help you achieve your goals, or perhaps even discover what they are. Set realistic goals and milestones – try not to overwhelm yourself which can bring on discouragement and invalidation. Take your time – you don’t need to have all the answers in one go. Do some research, some reading, take a course, find someone who can answer your questions.
Then don’t forget to put your plans in action. Imagining the journey is no substitute for actually taking it, but some forethought and planning might help make it go more smoothly.
I’ve recently blogged on this card focusing on leadership. You can read that post here.
Here’s the thing about knights: they’re always charging into situations with their energies before they really consider all the implications and ramifications of applying those energies to those situations. It’s a good way to avoid procrastination and overthinking, knights are nothing if not true to their nature and quite open about it. Sometimes, however it can be more pragmatic to be a little less overt about what you are thinking or feeling. The trick is in knowing which situations are appropriate for being up front and being reserved.
Hooray! We’ve made it through the first working week of 2015. That wasn’t so bad, was it? Now I’ve got that Friday feeling, and the freedom of the weekend is pretty much here.

Somebody put out a loaf of soft, fresh banana bread in the kitchen, which goes perfectly with the Nespresso to get my taste buds tingling. It’s still there when I go back for a second cup, so I have a tiny bit more. It tastes so good, I really want it. At least I think I want it. Not sure this fits into any description of January dietary detox. Ah well, nevermind that. I’m still easing into the year.
The Moon is an enchanting card, and also one that can make you feel a bit apprehensive. The Moon’s energy can excite the imagination, cause us to dream vividly, and deepen our intuition. Because of that, it can also take us out of our comfort zones and make the world seem unfamiliar, showing us things we never expected and are perhaps not prepared for.
The King of wands is a strong willed leader who knows what he wants and is keen to follow a direct route to get it. This person’s charisma is such that people naturally want to follow, or at least are willing to be caught up in his wake. He can be like a force of nature, plowing through any and every obstacle in his path. A good person to have around when there are things that need to be done, as long as he at least thinks they are things that he needs to get done.
