The Daily Draw: Eight of Pentacles, Reversed

Pentacles8_RxIn case you haven’t heard (ha ha) Mercury goes retrograde today, although you might be feeling the effects already. Being a Virgo, with Mercury as my ruling planet, I know I do.

Today’s draw is the Eight of Pentacles. The person on the RWS card is adept at their craft, with a certain level of skill and knowledge about what they are working at. Others must think so too, because he seems to have enough work to keep him busy, having made a number of pentacles with more to go. There is a total focus on the job at hand and an attention to detail – it’s as though nothing else matters but what he is doing right here right now. He’s not a master yet, there is still much to learn (isn’t there always) but he is well along the path.

So, the reversed aspect? I would say that a retrograde planet Mercury is not this person’s friend. I mean, look at him – does he look like he wants to be distracted? But that’s exactly what can happen at this time, in a variety of challenging ways. For example, the materials he needs for his products may arrive late, or not at all, or he might be shipped a box of silver plates instead of gold ones. Customers may say they want 10 when they actually wanted 100, “Sorry. Did I say next Thursday? I meant today. I tried to ring you but your phone seems to be off and it wouldn’t let me leave a message.” That last one could very well be true. Mercury retrograde loves playing havoc with electronics.

Of course, he might find he can get into a muddle without any help. For example, reflecting on his work after a concentrated morning’s effort, he might suddenly wonder why all his pentacles have six points. Perhaps he should have worn his glasses, but he can’t find them (psst! They’re in your apron.)

Keep calm. Be kind to yourself and try not to get stressed if the next few weeks contain a certain degree of error, delay or miscommunication. It’s Mercury retrograde for everybody, even people like this guy who are usually quite on top of things.
